Naga- Damask

Another one of my old naga characters redesigned. Unlike Trexl, who was just redrawn and spiffed up, Damask got a bit of a makeover. Originally he had bright red hair and pale skin, and more of a red-focused scale pattern (his color scheme was a lot more red, hence the name. ) His horns were gold, too.

Anyway, Damask is a fairly young naga, who belonged to a small tribe that lived near a mangrove swamp. He is an aquatic coral snake (but you can't really see the flattened tail because it's turned away), so he can hold his breath for a very long time under water and is quite capable of seeing even in murky areas. So, to make a long story short, Damask's tribe was rounded up and mostly captured by slavers from the cities. Slave trade is a very profitable business in large naga centers, but naga slaves are a bit rarer than other species, so the slavers do their best to keep naga slaves in good health and such. Damask was a "teenager", insomuch as naga years go, when he was taken to the city as a slave.

Damask is extremely shy and eager to please. Already a follower rather than a leader, he is quiet and says little. He is very pretty but not as smart as others, but he is highly observant, a good trait for one who stays quiet. He constantly needs to be around others, and his worst fears are of being alone. Hence, he doesn't really mind being a slave, because while he has been passed around often and has ended up with a few bad owners, his good experiences far outweighed the bad. He is always well-fed, nicely groomed, and usually decked out in jewelry that accents his beauty.

Once he was sold to a tribal naga king, and the tribesmen were later attacked. During the battle, Damask fled in fear and was lost in the snow. He wandered around for several days, until he was chanced upon by another naga, who offered him freedom. Damask was horrified by the thought of making his own decisions and not having someone to care for and protect him. He sold himself back into slavery soon after.

Damask would be too shy and afraid to actually bite someone, but it would be a pointless venture anyway. Being a slave, his venom glands were removed and his teeth were filed down, so even if he were to attack, no real harm would be done.
